Ooty is one of my favorite hill stations in south India and would love to visit this hill station again and again hence I would love to publish my 1st blog on the same.
Ooty is a Picnic Spot and also the favorite location for shooting, many Bollywood movies like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Saajan, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mann Karz, and Raaz, were shot extensively in Ooty. You can also indulge yourself in activities like Trekking, Mountain cycling, River Rafting, Paragliding, Hang Gliding, and Zip Lining.

Toda Huts

The Toda village is one of the hidden gems of Elk Hill, Ooty. It is one of the best among the Ooty tourist places. The houses are oval-shaped and called as ‘Doggles. The houses are made of bamboo canes of varying thicknesses woven together to create a simple yet beautiful architectural structure. These huts are ten feet in height and have an area of about 160 square feet. The bamboo structure is then thatched and is enclosed by a small wall of loose stones. you can approach the member of the Toda community who will guide and explain all you wanted to know about the community and their beautiful village.
This Village is located at a distance of 5.6 KM from the mainland of Ooty, if you are among those who love to spend time away from city life then Toda Hut from Toda village is the best choice.
Kalhatty Waterfalls

You can add kalhatty waterfalls to the list of your Ooty tour. With the marvelous view of the Ghats, the waterfalls are a sight to see and are situated about 14 kilometers away from Ooty – Sigur Ghat Road or Mysore Road, It is located at an average height of around 400 feet in the Sigur Plateau of Tamil Nadu.
Kalhatty Waterfalls is also known as the Kalahasti Falls and the best time to visit these falls will be during the months of September and November when winter is beginning and the monsoon is ending. The Kalhatty Waterfalls descents from a height of 120+ feet and is considered to be an ideal destination for trekking, you can also try out paragliding here which gives you an adrenaline rush with a bird’s eye view of the location. It is one of the best among the Ooty tourist places.
Avalanche Lake

The views from the top of the hill at Avalanche give a breathtaking sight of the Avalanche Valley and reservoir. In many places here, the shoals are so thick that even sunlight cannot penetrate. Avalanche Lake is an important tourism destination in the Nilgiris district. The stunning spot with clear, blue water and lush greenery all around it is a treat from the busy way of city life.
This is the area where trout fishing can be carried out, also you can get into trekking through the nearby upper Bhavani region which is a thick forest area. Camping at this place is something you can never miss. Avalanche Lake falls is about 22 km from Ooty city center, and you access numerous bus and taxi services at regular intervals to drop you from Ooty to Avalanche Lake there.

Wenlock Downs – Ooty

Wenlock Down is also called as 9th-mile Shooting point as it is 15 km (i.e. 9 miles) away from the city life of Ooty, When you start exploring Wenlock down you find that lush green grass stretching endlessly and it does not seem to end, No matter how much you keep walking.
But when you find some different route you end up with another stretch of eucalyptus trees. the Wenlock Downs is now home to the Gymkhana Club of Ooty and also the Government Sheep Farm. it is one of the most Favorite Spot for Movies producers the Shoot, hence you can spot this place in many Indian movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Deewana, Raja Hindustani, and others so locals thus, nicknamed Wenlock Downs as Shooting Medu, The journey from Ooty to Wenlock Downs is fully covered with most serene excursions from Ooty.
The peak offers breathtaking views of the Nilgiris and is one of the best places to explore the beauty of Ooty. The view of a lake which is formed by the backwaters of Pykara from Wenlock Downs is very scenic. Some of the activities you can do are, Hiking up the viewpoint, horse riding, and soaking in the view. It is one of the best among the Ooty tourist places.
Emerald Lake

Emerald Lake is located in Emerald Village, situated in a region called the silent valley, it’s about 25 kilometers from the busy life of Ooty town. it is the quietest and most peaceful place to relax in the lap of nature because this lake is a less visited location when compared to other Ooty tourist places.
Emerald Lake is also popular for activities like trekking down the lakeside and mountain biking. Emerald lake is surrounded by tea plantations which make this place a perfect choice you can visit in Ooty.
You can also spot the stunning views of sunset and sunrise which gives you a fantastic collection of your photographic hobby, along with that the lake happens to be a photographer’s paradise and therefore, you should never miss capturing the best shot with your camera lens. Best time to explore the Ooty Tourist Places.
Ooty is the dream destination for some, thus we bring you the perfect time to visit Ooty so that the Ooty trip becomes one of the best trips of your life and when you sit back and recollect the moments of the Ooty tour, the memory created back then should provoke you to visit Ooty again and again.

- In Summer: From March to June the temperature of Ooty ranges between 20°C-25°C throughout the summer season. You can explore the Botanical Garden, sightseeing at Avalanche Lake and Ooty Lake. On clear nights of Summer, you can go star-gazing and camping.
- In Monsoon: You can witness the heavy rainfall in Ooty from July to September. If you love rains and want to admire the beauty of Ooty in the rainy season the can visit Glenmorgan, Pykara Lake also embrace the beauty of Dodabetta. If you are a true nature lover and want to spend time peaceful time then you can enjoy some peace and calm in these amazing Ooty tourist places.
- In Winter: Winter season lasts from October to February, during this season Ooty the entire town gets covered with fog making it to the breathtaking hill station perfect for sightseeing. At night, the temperature can even go below 5°C. You enjoy a ride on the toy train, visit tea plantations and also you can take your kids out for hot snacks and shopping. Many feel that winter is not the perfect season to visit Ooty tourist places.
